The Paleolithic Diet Food List

If you are unsure what a paleolithic diet is, it is a diet which follows what we believe cave men ate, and therefore what many think is the ‘natural’ diet for our body. Here is an overview of the paleolithic diet food list:

  • Any cut of meat as long as it is pure meat and not mixed with other ingredients (such as in beefburgers, sausages etc). No meat covered in breadcrumbs sauces etc. This meat can include everyday meats such as beef, pork and chicken or more unsual meats like rabbit, goat, alligator, ostrich etc.
  • Eggs from chickens, ducks or geese. Often it is advised to limit these to one a day.
  • Any amount of fish and shellfish can be eaten but generally it is thought that oily fish are healthier.
  • If you are eating large amounts of meat and fish it is advised that you choose free range organic foods as these are less likely to contain large amounts or hormones which can be passed through to humans and we are yet to know the effects of these.

In addition to these foods of which you can eat any amount (apart from the eggs already mentioned) you will also need some fruit and vegetables in order to have a good balance of vitamins and minerals. All vegetables and fruit contain some carbohydrates which cause a build up of fats in our body, especially around the organs where it can cause severe damage. Therefore it is best to stick to green leafy vegetables, which are high in vitamins and low in sugars. Vegetables like kale,¬†broccoli and¬†spinach are all very vitamin-rich especially if they aren’t cooked for too long. If you wish to have fruit, berries such as strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are the best antioxidant choices.

If you aren’t using the diet to lose weight you can also add other vegetables and fruits as long as you avoid the ones really high in sugar such as melon and grapes. You can also eat roots and nuts.

Foods to avoid include grains, beans, dairy, sugar, processed oils and any processed foods. Following this diet should return your body to a thinner, healthy, natural state often reportedly without having to reduce calories or do exercise.
